Tech-Spec: The computer nerds in us all were THRILLED to learn about the new Alienware Area-51M Gaming Laptop.
While you might update your personal computer every few years (depending on the quality and lifespan), most modern laptops and PCs don’t come ready-made to support the latest gaming technology, let alone fit anything much else on them.
The huge appeal of the Area-51m gaming laptop lies in the customization options; the internal specs of the laptop itself are designed to be upgraded and accessible by the user themselves, creating a level of autonomy not many modern brands provide today.
Baseline specs include Intel Core i7-8700 processor, RTX 2070 GPU, 1TB hard drive, 8GB of DDR4 memory, and a 1080p 60Hz screen – of which larger versions of all are available.
This is the true beauty of the device – everything, save for the display, can be upgraded individually, including space for up to 64GB of RAM. All of this as well as an option to swap the hard drive, graphics card, CPU and GPU. It even comes with easy-to-follow instructions on HOW to do this for yourself!
What are the cons, you ask?
As with any pros as favourable as these, the Area-51m device also comes with baggage. The baggage is of the hefty price-tag kind, with the baseline price starting at $2,549. It’s also fairly heavy as portable devices go, but it’s definitely still a breath of fresh air to consider a laptop which actually encourages technical autonomy and reduces the need to visit and pay for upgrade work at the tech store in the coming years…
