Adidas has finally adopted a more sustainable production model. Parley for the Oceans is a new initiative which aims to use waste materials from oceans around the world like fishing nets and other upcycled plastic waste to make clothing and stylish activewear with a purpose. Taking plastic waste back out of the water and putting it to good use is a monumental step for such a large international brand, particularly because of the maintained quality of the product. This pair features Boost cushioning to optimize comfort while traversing the course, a mid-foot wrap, and eight-spike outsole for grip and stability. The green and blue colours serve as a reminder of the origins of most of the material used in their production, and it’s the hope of Adidas that their initiative will inspire generations of designers to seek alternative methods of sourcing their materials. At $200 a pair they don’t come cheap – but really, is there a price on how valuable our natural world is to us?
