The Lancia Delta S4 is a legend amongst rally cars. For those of you unfamiliar, these beastly Group B cars were equipped with a mid-mounted engine and space frame chassis, giving it supreme handling and bringing about a whole new meaning to the term “pocket rocket.”
Of course, times change and things move on, but icons remain. That’s why Automobili Amos have taken one of the best cars from the 1980s and given it a modern makeover. Bringing this car into the 21st century means sacrifices had to be made, so the Amos Lancia Delta Futurista is missing the chassis and mid-mounted engine layout, but what it does have is a Singer Porsche-like makeover.
Hand hammered aluminum and carbon fiber body panels adorn the vehicle, as well as fender flares that are wider than the original to cover an increased track. These changes make the car weigh in 90kg less than the original, which combined with some engine overhauling, make for a powerful hot-hatch that can blow away the competition.
A custom water-cooling system is paired with an air intake and exhaust, again, purpose built, which is complimented with a reinforced transmission and rebuilt differential. The result? 330bhp. While this is impressive enough, the improvements don’t stop here. The interior has been completely re-trimmed and modern Recaro bucket seats join a switchgear that pays homage to the original. Alcantara covers almost everything to continue the throwback feeling of the original.
A timeless car that’s been lovingly recreated, the Amos Lancia Delta Futurista offers an unparalleled experience of quality and a true thrill ride.
